FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

The information below is educational and not medical advice. If you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, are pregnant, or have any medical concern, talk to your physician before contrast therapy, cold plunge, or sauna use.

Getting Started

What is Posture Lab LA?

+
Posture Lab LA is a Santa Monica studio that combines root-cause posture correction with athletic recovery. We pair corrective therapiesPosture Reset™, the S.E.T. Method™, and Neuro-Fascia Massage™ — with private infrared sauna and cold plunge Recovery Rooms, so you fix pain at the source and recover faster. We serve Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey, Culver City, Brentwood, and West LA.

Where are you located?

+
We're at 3303 Pico Blvd, Suite G, Santa Monica, CA 90405 — easy to reach from anywhere on the Westside. Free and metered parking options are nearby. You can book online in under a minute.

What are your hours?

+
We schedule by appointment, and you can view real-time availability and book any service through our online scheduler.

How do I book an appointment?

+
Booking is fast, secure, and fully online — choose your service, date, and practitioner through our online scheduler. You can reschedule or cancel online up to 24 hours before your session. Book now.

Do I need to be referred by a doctor?

+
No referral needed. Most clients come to us directly. We're a self-pay practice, so you can book any service on your own — though we're happy to coordinate with your physician or other providers if you'd like.

Is this like a chiropractor or a physical therapist?

+
We're neither, and that's the point. Rather than adjustments alone or insurance-capped PT, we correct the structural and movement patterns behind your pain, reinforce them with corrective exercise, and integrate recovery. The result is change that holds, not temporary relief.

What should I expect at my first visit?

+
Your first visit centers on assessment — we map how you stand, load, and move to find the real source of your pain, which is often nowhere near where you feel it. From there we build a personalized plan. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.

Who do you work with?

+
Office workers with tech neck, athletes chasing better biomechanics, people recovering from injury, seniors facing mobility decline, and anyone with chronic pain or tightness who wants to move better and live pain-free.

Pricing, Insurance & Policies

Do you accept insurance?

+
We operate as a self-pay practice. We can provide documentation (a "superbill") for you to submit for out-of-network reimbursement where your plan allows. Check with your insurer about out-of-network and HSA/FSA eligibility.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

+
Many clients use HSA/FSA funds for our services. Eligibility depends on your specific plan, so confirm with your administrator. We can provide itemized documentation to support your claim.

How much do sessions cost?

+
Pricing varies by service and by single-session vs. package vs. membership. The fastest way to see current rates is our online scheduler, where every service and package is listed with live pricing.

Do you offer packages or memberships?

+
Yes. Single sessions, multi-session packages, and memberships are available — packages and memberships lower your per-session cost and are popular with regular Recovery Room and therapy clients. See options in the Recovery Room catalog or ask at the studio.

What's your cancellation policy?

+
You can cancel or reschedule online up to 24 hours before your session, no problem. Late changes inside that window may be subject to a fee.

Can I buy a gift card?

+
Gift options make a great fit for the Recovery Rooms — ask the studio or check the scheduler for availability.

Posture, Pain & Corrective Therapy

What conditions do you treat?

+
We help with neck pain and forward-head ("tech neck") posture, lower back pain and pelvic imbalances, rounded shoulders and upper-cross syndrome, shoulder dysfunction, sciatica and nerve impingement, post-injury compensation patterns, and chronic tightness or limited mobility.

How many sessions will I need?

+
Every body is different, but most clients notice meaningful improvement within 3–6 sessions. Lasting structural change comes from consistency — we'll give you a realistic plan at your assessment rather than an open-ended package.

Can you really fix my posture, or is it just temporary?

+
Posture is a learned structural pattern, not just a habit — which means it can be re-learned. Our Posture Reset™ finds the pattern, corrects it, and the S.E.T. Method™ reinforces it with targeted exercise so the change holds rather than snapping back.

What is forward-head posture / "tech neck," and can you correct it?

+
Forward-head posture is when your head sits ahead of your shoulders — common from phones and desk work — straining your neck and upper back. Yes, we correct it by releasing the overworked muscles, activating the underused ones, and retraining your alignment. Start with a Posture Reset™ evaluation.

I've had back pain for years. Is it too late?

+
Rarely. Chronic pain usually reflects long-standing compensation patterns, not permanent damage — and patterns can be changed. We assess the true source and build a correction plan. Many long-term-pain clients see meaningful change within a handful of sessions.

Do you treat jaw pain or TMJ?

+
Yes. Jaw tension is an overlooked driver of headaches, posture imbalance, and nervous-system stress. Our jaw release therapy (part of Posture Reset™) uses targeted manual work around the TMJ to relieve tightness in the jaw, face, and neck, improving mobility and easing headaches.

What's the difference between Posture Reset™ and the S.E.T. Method™?

+
Posture Reset™ is assessment and correction — finding and releasing the patterns driving your pain. The S.E.T. Method™ is the strength side — corrective exercise that rebuilds structural integrity so the correction lasts. Most clients benefit from both: correct first, then reinforce.

What is Neuro-Fascia Massage™ and how is it different from regular massage?

+
Neuro-Fascia Massage™ targets the nervous system and fascia (connective tissue), not just muscles. Standard deep tissue pushes harder; this works smarter — releasing tension at its neurological root so relief lasts instead of returning by morning, while improving mobility and decompressing joints.

Will the work be painful?

+
Our methods are designed to be gentle and effective. Some bodywork has a "hurts so good" quality as tension releases, but we work with your nervous system, not against it. You should leave feeling looser and more aligned, not beaten up.

How soon will I feel results?

+
Many clients feel lighter, looser, and more mobile after a single session. Structural, lasting change builds over the first few sessions as your body re-patterns. We track measurable markers so progress is visible, not just a feeling.

Recovery Rooms: Contrast Therapy, Sauna & Cold Plunge

What is contrast therapy?

+
Contrast therapy is the deliberate alternation between heat (infrared sauna) and cold (cold plunge). The heat opens your blood vessels and the cold constricts them, creating a "vascular pump" that boosts circulation, flushes metabolic waste, reduces inflammation, and accelerates recovery — with a noticeable lift in mood and focus. Try it in our private Recovery Rooms.

What's included in a Recovery Room session?

+
Your own private suite with a full-spectrum infrared sauna, a cold plunge, and a private shower with fresh towels — a clean, calm space that's yours for the session. No sharing, no waiting for equipment. Book a Recovery Room.

Sauna before or after cold plunge — what's the right order?

+
Start with the sauna. Heat first raises your core temperature and opens circulation; moving to the cold plunge after creates the contrast that drives the recovery response. A common cycle is sauna, then plunge, then a brief rest — repeated for your session.

How long should I stay in the cold plunge?

+
Beginners do well with about 30–90 seconds; as you adapt you can extend to 2–3 minutes. The water should feel "uncomfortably cold but safe." Your best gauge is your breathing — if you can't settle into slow, steady exhales, ease out. Your practitioner will guide you.

How cold is the cold plunge, and how hot is the sauna?

+
Cold plunges for recovery generally sit in the roughly 45–60°F range, and our infrared sauna delivers a deep, comfortable heat that warms your body directly rather than just the air. Exact settings are dialed to a safe, effective range for contrast work.

What's a good contrast therapy protocol for beginners?

+
A simple starting pattern: ~10 minutes in the sauna, ~1–2 minutes in the cold plunge, then a short rest — repeated 2–3 rounds across your session. Start conservative and build tolerance over time. We'll help you tailor the cycle to your goals and experience level.

How often should I do contrast therapy or cold plunge?

+
Most people do 2–3 sessions per week; some go daily depending on goals. A commonly cited target is roughly 11 minutes of total cold exposure per week, spread across sessions. Consistency matters more than intensity — regular short sessions beat occasional marathons.

Should I finish on hot or cold?

+
It depends on your goal and time of day. Finish on cold in the morning or midday for alertness and a clean energy reset. Finish warm in the evening if you're aiming for relaxation and better sleep. The same person can switch depending on the session.

What are the benefits of an infrared sauna?

+
Full-spectrum infrared heats your body directly for a deep, comfortable sweat at lower temperatures. Benefits include detoxification through sweating, eased muscle soreness and joint stiffness, improved circulation and cardiovascular support, and deep stress relief. It's also ideal for people who run cold or find traditional saunas too harsh.

What are the benefits of cold plunging?

+
Cold immersion reduces inflammation and post-workout soreness, boosts circulation and muscle recovery, sharpens focus and elevates mood through a norepinephrine and dopamine release, and supports immune function and stress resilience. A few minutes can do what hours of passive rest can't.

Is cold plunging good for sore muscles and workout recovery?

+
Yes — it's one of the most effective recovery tools available. For the biggest effect on soreness, use contrast therapy within a few hours of a hard workout. It helps reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), flush inflammation, and get you ready to perform again sooner.

Can contrast therapy help with sleep and stress?

+
Many people report deeper sleep and lower stress after sessions. The heat relaxes your nervous system, the cold triggers a mood-lifting neurochemical response, and the core-temperature shift afterward can make it easier to fall asleep — especially with an evening, warm-finish session.

Do I need to be an athlete to use the Recovery Rooms?

+
Not at all. Contrast therapy, sauna, and cold plunge help with inflammation, stress, sleep, mood, and general recovery for everyone — desk workers, parents, travelers, and weekend warriors alike. You don't need to train hard to benefit.

Can I book a Recovery Room without doing therapy?

+
Absolutely. The Recovery Rooms are open to book on their own — single session or package — whether or not you're a posture-therapy client. Reserve your suite anytime through the scheduler.

Can I bring a friend or partner?

+
Yes. The suites are private, and you're welcome to share your session with a guest. Many clients make it a shared ritual — it can be more fun and more motivating, especially when you're new to cold plunging.

What should I bring or wear?

+
Bring a swimsuit and yourself. Towels and a private shower are provided. Come well-hydrated, eat light beforehand, and skip heavy lotions or oils before the sauna and plunge.

Is contrast therapy safe? Are there any risks?

+
For most healthy adults, yes. But if you have heart issues, high or low blood pressure, peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy, are pregnant, or have open wounds, check with your physician first. Always listen to your body — if you feel lightheaded or "off," step out and rest. This isn't medical advice.

How long is a Recovery Room session?

+
Sessions run about 50–60 minutes — enough time for several full sauna-plunge-rest cycles at a comfortable pace, plus a shower. You set the rhythm within your suite.

How should I prepare for my first contrast session?

+
Hydrate well beforehand, eat something light (not a heavy meal), and arrive a few minutes early. Plan to start with the sauna, keep cold plunges short at first, control your breathing on the cold entry, and rehydrate after. Go at your own pace — adaptation beats suffering.

Infrared sauna vs. traditional sauna — what's the difference?

+
A traditional sauna heats the air around you; an infrared sauna heats your body directly with infrared wavelengths, producing a deep sweat at a lower, more comfortable air temperature. Many people who find traditional saunas too intense tolerate infrared easily — and it works well for contrast therapy.
