Which one makes you sweat more?
A traditional sauna makes you sweat faster because the ambient air is far hotter. Over a full session, an infrared sauna usually produces a comparable total sweat volume because you stay in two to three times longer.
Sweat volume is not the benefit anyway. The core-temperature rise and the cardiovascular response it triggers are what the research tracks.
Which is better for recovery?
For post-training recovery, infrared has a practical edge: you can stay in long enough to get sustained blood flow to sore tissue without the heat itself becoming a stressor you have to recover from. For pure heat acclimation — training your body to perform in hot conditions — a traditional sauna's higher acute load is the more direct tool.
Which should you choose?

- Choose traditional if you want a short intense session, are doing deliberate heat acclimation for endurance sport, or simply prefer the ritual.
